Losties,

This week Lost Lines comes to you from the white sand beaches of Florida! Even though my body is in paradise, my mind is still sharp and ready for tonight's episode of Lost!

Do you see the lengths I go to for you sad, addicted few? You should be ashamed! Making me take time out of drinking beer, eating fresh seafood, and letting various hotties rub suntan lotion over my rock hard abs, just so you can get your fix! I don't have all day, so let's get to it!

First and foremost, IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN LAST WEEK'S EP, STOP READING NOW!!!! SPOILERS WILL BE AHEAD! Now that that's out of the way.....

Well, we only have two more episodes until the finale. It's hard to believe just a few weeks remain. On the good side though, it sounds like these last few episodes will be epic! First let's do a little housekeeping. The finale has been extended by 30 minutes. So, On May 23rd (a Sunday), we will have either a one hour recap of the show and then a 2 1/2 hr episode, or a 3 1/2 hr episode and no recap. Either way, set your DVRs accordingly. And if you still have a VCR, call your cable or satellite provider, carefully explain to them how lame you are, then tell them you want to come into the 21st century ASAP! Ask for the Lost Lines special, and if they act like they don't know what your talking about, continue to insist until they hang up. They will promptly call you back with a super-secret, super-awesome deal. You like Skinamax, right?

So here we sit. Three (4 if you count Frank Lapidus, the pilot) of our favorite Losties are dead. If memory serves me, Sayid was number three on the last Deathwatch 2010 update. The Kwon's were no where to be found. And all you ladies have to admit, when that metal hit Sawyer on the head and knocked him out cold, you started tripping a little bit. Come on....admit it. Miracle Abs had a close call.

But more importantly, Sawyer's mistrust of Jack got them all killed. If he wouldn't have messed with the bomb, they might all still be alive. Way to go beefcake! So the MIB's plan was to get all the Candidate's together so he could blow them all up. He couldn't kill them, but he could trick them into killing each other. Which means the only way he can kill the other survivors is if he tricks them too.

But, my main question lies with the two alternate realities. Is one real and the other fake? Will the alternate timeline remain or be destroyed by the things that Desmond is doing, trying to reunite all the Losties and help them to remember the island? At this point, who knows. I can't really figure out what role Desmond is playing. I understand that he represents a type of gateway between the two worlds, probably to let the Losties know that their sacrifices on the island aren't for nothing, that there's this other world where everything in their lives are working out better. My guess is Widmore or Jack will need Desmond to turn the wheel (or destroy it) one final time. I could see a scenario playing out where Jack and MIB end up being the only two people left on the island, with Jack becoming the MIB's new jailer. Because that's all the island really is for the MIB...a jail.

This is one of those episodes I always harp on. It's written by the creators, so it should be a doozy. Even though this is an episode about the history of Jacob and the MIB, I bet we will get some juicy scoopage on the history of the island as well, including the origins of things like the statue and the frozen underground wheel!

Sorry, this was a short one (first time I've ever had to say that...HI YO!), but I've gotta get back to bronzing my finely chiseled pecks. As I have been writing, a small crowd of onlookers have gathered around me to admire the view. NO PICTURES PLEASE! WELL....OK, JUST A FEW, BUT THEN I HAVE TO GET BACK TO BEING AWESOME. What.... I don't know if anyone else knew this, but I just learned that tonight's episode is a repeat!?!?! I hadn't heard this, but doing some research online proved it to be accurate. Tonight's episode will be a rerun of "Ab Aeterno," the Richard-centric flashback where we learn his origin. This news, in a word, sucks!

Well Losties,

Let me set the stage for you. There I was, 2 ½ hours into my Lost Lines, humming right along. I was a mere 2 paragraphs away from completing yet another epic writing achievement. This one was the big one. I was thinking Oscar, Pulitzer, Emmy, and maybe (fingers crossed) even a Nobel for that monumental email. At the very least, I expected one of those big plastic trophies they hand out at 7 year old girls softball tournaments. But then, with the speed and precision of a fatty pouncing on a piping hot Meat Lover’s at a pizza buffet, it was gone. I don’t know what was more blank, the screen or my face. After a string of mental profanities the likes of which could and should never be equaled, I threw up my hands (and almost my lunch) and quit. I swore I would never attempt to recreate the perfection that was that email. But then, I started to think of my loyal peeps. I started to think of your poor, pathetic existences, and how I could bring some sliver of sunshine to your dark and dreary days. And I said “Ross, you must try. You must dig down deep into your literal bag of tricks and pull forth the most awesomely awesome Lines yet.” And so I did. The following is the most accurate representation of that magical email. Keep in mind, this was written BEFORE this week’s episode.

Well Losties,

Sorry, I went to get a cold frosty one from the fridge, did I miss anything? Wait, something's missing. Jack, Hurley, Ben, Ilana.....uh...where's Ilana? Wait, what? Just now? While I was getting a brew? Damn!! Rewind that shizz.

So if you had Ilana in the Deathwatch Pool, you win.

We are getting close. Only a few more episodes left until we are done. I think the eps are getting a little better every week. But answers are coming out slower than a stutterer reading the S section of the phone book. I guess the one big answer this week was about the whispers. So the whispers are the "ghosts" of people that have been on the island and committed some sort of evil act, and now they are stuck there. Sounds a lot like Purgatory to me. but we've been told it's not. Maybe not in the actual religious sense, but it serves the same purpose as Purgatory.

Like a baby and a birthday cake, I'm gonna be all over the place people, so follow along at your own risk! There could be cursing, there should be awesomeness, and there would be pictures, but I used them all for the website (lostlinesbyross.blogspot.com, tell your friends).

First, I want to get my favorite part of this episode out of the way at the top. At the beginning, after Hurley receives the award, he says the next weekend he'll be at the reception for the Human Fund. The Human Fund is the fictitious charity that George donated money to in the classic episode of Seinfeld. So, as a huge Seinfeld fan, I thought that was pretty funny shout out.

QUESTIONS???

What was up with the epic stare-down between Fake Locke and Jack at the end of the episode? It was something straight out of "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly."

What is the stick of wood going to be that the MIB was carving? That's one of those things they throw in that isn't obvious. But there was a reason he was carving up that wood. My guess would be that someone will be getting impaled with it in the very near future...

Everyone's been asking "What's in the bag Hurley picked up?" Could it be Miles' diamonds. Nope. He wouldn't let those out of his sight. Could it be the bag holding the black and white rocks found with Adam and Eve in the cave in season 1? Possibly. My bet would be that it contained the ashes of Jacob that Ilana scooped up in Jacob's foot house after he was burned. My guess is they will be used to protect the remaining Losties from the MIB.

And finally, I am assuming that the kid the MIB keeps running into in the jungle is Jacob. Why did he get such a kick out of the MIB and Desmond walking through the jungle towards the well?

He was smiling like the cat that ate the canary. I think it's because Desmond is right where Jacob wants him to be, at the bottom of that well. Preparing to turn the wheel, I would bet.

If a possum is 10 points, and a deer is 100 points, is hitting John Locke with a car like 1000 points? I think there are two possible reasons why Desmond ran him down:

1. He remembers that Locke is now the MIB in the alternate timeline, and is trying to snuff him out just in case.
or, more likely,
2. Desmond is trying to facilitate all the Losties to get together. Desmond knows that an injured person will be sent to the nearest hospital, which will end up being Jack's hospital. And you know that Ben will also go to check on Locke, so they are slowly all coming together.

HIT THE FIREWORKS!!! BLAST THE HEAVY METAL MUSIC!!! IT'S ON!!!! DEATHWATCH. 2010. NOW WITH MORE FIBER!!! LADIES, WATCH OUT, YOU COULD BECOME PREGNANT WITH AN AWESOME BABY JUST BY READING THIS!!!

It's that time, with only four eps left, some will live, some will die, but no matter what, Lost shall go on! Without further adoo…

5. Sawyer – He’s gone from brooding villain to brooding hero to just flat out brooding. His woman’s dead, his hopes are dashed, and everyone seemingly gets on his only nerve. So ladies, say goodbye to the pecs, lats, abs, slats, pats, zats and clats (I’ve never been to good with the muscle groups). I can see some final heroic act from the island bad boy to save his fellow Losties. And Sawyer, if that’s the case, you won’t be needing those sweet reading glasses…..just sayin’…..

4. Sayid (or Claire, take your pick) – Let’s see, crazy…check. Soulless zombies…check. An apparent aversion to soap and water….double check! I mean come on. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear scientists have discovered an entirely new species of lice in the bird’s nest sitting on top of Claire’s head. These two seem to be cannon fodder for the MIB, so I have no doubt he will cut them loose once they have outlived their usefulness.

3. Ben – See previous Lost Lines. Evil bastard, must die fabulously horrible, Ross happy. Simple.

2. Desmond – As much as it hurts me to write it, Desmond is on borrowed time at this point. He obviously plays a hugely important role in the overall story of the island. That’s why I think it can only go one of two ways for Des:

1. He bites it to save everyone (or by destroying the island), or

2. He has to sacrifice ever seeing his family again to stay on the island and become its new protector.

And #1. He’s been suicidal, homicidal, drugged, beaten, happy, sad, depressed and depressing. He’s been in more love triangles than The Bachelor. He changes sides more than a Rubik’s Cube. He has a dead dad and a live kid. He’s Jack! I don’t see any scenario where Jack comes out of this one too well. A showdown with Smokey seems inevitable, and I don’t think our resident doctor can stumble his way through. The only prescription he’ll be writing is for pain!

And there we have it, my best reproduction of the mythical lost Lost Lines email. Never fear, this isn’t the only one you’ll get. You’ll still have my regular dose of sweet Lost Lines nectar early next week recapping this week’s episode. So enjoy your weekend. For me, it will be another typical weekend of making dreams come true, turning wishes into realities, and weeding. Always with the weeding….

Well Losties,

Between preparing myself for my upcoming selection in the NFL draft (I’m a first-rounder, no doubt), climbing K2, and jumping the Snake River in my rocket car, I haven’t had a lot of time to write my Lost Lines this week. Hell, I haven’t even re-watched the episode yet, so I’m going into this a little cold, so be gentle with your expectations.

In my opinion, there are 3 kinds of Lost episodes:

Good episodes

Great episodes

Desmond episodes

I have to say that Desmond eps have surpassed Locke eps in terms of bad-assery. Desmond eps always satisfy the geek, the sci-fi nerd, the mushy romantic, and the manly man. Plus, most of the people in his eps have accents. You gotta love the way British people pronounce the word ‘schedule.’ Shh-ed-u-el. But the best part is the mythology of a Desmond episode. Let’s face it, Desmond is a time-traveling, alternate dimension-hopping, naked jungle-running, button pushing, ship-sailing, Ben-beating, Brutha-calling, electromagnetic mack daddy. Don’t even deny it. If you have a problem with Desmond, then you have a problem with yourself! Word!

Obviously, the whole point of this ep was to tie the two timelines together. Now I suppose Desmond will try to present this new info to all the people that were on Flight 815 in the alternate timeline to see if any of them have experienced any wacky visions. Since his realization was based on love, we have to think about who the rest of the Losties have loved. Once they experience/remember that love, maybe the timelines begin to merge. So…

Sawyer/Juliet- I’m sure coffee will be involved after Juliet muttered something about coffee and going dutch when she died. And Desmond is meeting Penny for coffee…hmmmmm…

Hurley/Libby- Hurley was really beginning to stir up feelings for Libby when she was shot by Michael in the Hatch in Season 2….and tonight is a Hurley-centric ep…

Jack/Kate???- I wouldn’t bet on this one….

Ben/?????- I would guess Alex….

Chawlie/Claire- Blaaah..Sorry, just threw up in my mouth a little….

Locke/????- I got nothing on that one…

But what does this mean for Desmond in the Island timeline? Widmore said he would be asked to make a sacrifice for the good of the world (or something to that affect). It has something to do with withstanding a lot of electromagnetic energy. And Zoe (the chick in glasses) was asking about the pockets of energy around the island. There are only two that I know of…..the Hatch (which was destroyed in the explosion) and the wheel (that moves the island).

So what’s the deal with Eloise Hawkings (or Eloise Widmore in the alt time)? She obviously is in the know to what is going on. I think she is in cahoots with the MIB. Remember, she was the one who told the Losties to take Locke’s body back to the island, and the one who (with no questions asked) got them back on the island. Let’s think for a moment: She and Widmore were together on the island in the past and had a child together (Faraday). But off the island they are not together at all. In fact, last season when Desmond told Widmore he was looking for Faraday’s mom, Widmore warned him about her. So, I think they are now on opposite sides. Widmore is loyal to Jacob, and Eloise is sided with the MIB. Why? Because in the alt timeline, Faraday is still alive. Eloise doesn’t have to live with the fact that she killed her own son. But Widmore realizes that Faraday’s death was a necessary step in order to keep the MIB on the island.

It was pretty hard to follow such a great Richard-centric episode from last week, but overall, I think Lost did a pretty good job. It was definitely a set-up episode, but I think it was a pretty good one. I think we can polish this turd pretty well and pull out some tasty morsels to consider.

First and foremost...Desmond is back and that has to fall into the 'Awesome' category. A Desmond appearance usually means my favorite Lost formula will be at the forefront:

Desmond + Lost = Wacky Time Travel Hijinx!!!

But we will get to that later. Let's pan for gold in this previous episode. But Ross, you say, nothing good happened in that episode, you say. I say thee nay!! We were given tips and hints to upcoming shenanigans! Let's put our thinking caps on!

In the first 5 minutes, the MIB tells us that he needs all the remaining people together to get off the island. That's why he is so hot to get Jin back from the Widmore crew after he is taken. Once any seasoned Lostie heard this, a giant light bulb should have appeared over your head. Not the old style bulb, but that new funky, twisty version that costs like $10 apiece. I poop myself a little every time a bulb goes out in my house, knowing I'm gonna have to apply for a FHA loan to replace them. Wow, 2 feces references in one Lost Lines. I wish I could say that's some kind of record, but it's probably not. What can I say, doody is funny And there's the record....

I think there's another reason the MIB wants all the Losties together....to kill them. From all the scibbles on Jacob's cave wall, the MIB knows there are only a handfull of Candidates left to take over for Jacob. So, if he can kill them all, then all that's left for him is to find a way off the island. But, I think I have figured out a huge trick that Jacob has played on all of us, including the MIB. Stay with me now peeps, this might get confusing...

Jacob had the names of all the Losties and a corresponding number scribbled on the cave walls. He also had all the names with the same number on the dial at his magic Lighthouse. Except one. Kate's name wasn't in the cave at all. At that moment, I knew something had to be up. Then, we saw the Lighthouse. Again, names and numbers. But this time on the dial, at the bottom.....51 - Austen....not marked out.

So, Kate's name wasn't in the cave at all, but it was on the dial. We've all been tricked!!! Tricked I tell you!!!! Just like the MIB. You see, I think the cave with all the names crossed out was just a hoax and the dial with the names is the true list of the Candidates. Since Kate's name isn't in the cave, the MIB doesn't know that she's a Candidate, or in my opinion...THE Candidate. You need reasons?? Oh I gots the reasons son!

Reason #1: To get to the cave, you have to climb down the crazy rickety rope ladder that hangs over the water. In the last episode we learned that the Smoke Monster can't fly over water! Remember? He and Sayid had to take the boat over to Hydra Island. What better way to make the MIB think the cave was important than for Jacob to make it hard for him to get to. The MIB had to use an actual physical body to get down to the cave.

Reason #2: The Lighthouse. Jack mentioned to Hurley why they had never seen the Lighthouse before. Hurley said "I guess we weren't looking for it." So, I don't think you know the Lighthouse is there unless Jacob tells you to go find it. That's how the MIB has never seen it. Therefore, he's never seen the names on the dial.

Reason #3: The MIB told Claire that once all the Losties are on the plane, Kate would be expendable. They hope that we bite on that trick too. So we start to think Kate's a goner, but really, she's the savior. The Candidate!

QUICK HITS!!!

Just before she opened the door to let Keamey into the hotel room, Sun took a long look into the mirror on the wall. It was waaaaay to long to be an innocent gesture. She gave a look like she was remembering something. All the major characters have looked at their reflection in the alternate reality.

Widmore said they found Sun's bags on the plane. Remember when Sun tracked down Widmore in London last season and proposed a partnership? Could they be working together? Could there have been a tracker in Sun's luggage, leading Widmore's crew to the island?

Zoe (the Tina Fey look-alike) was asking Jin about the pockets of electomagnetic energy around the island. The only ones I know are the Hatch site and the Frozen Wheel.

Losties,

What an episode! I think it was one of the all time greats! Yeah, we got all the goods on Richard. His wife, his time on the Black Rock, and his job on the island.

But all that was pretty straightforward. In my opinion, this episode was just as much about the MIB and Jacob as it was Richard. I’m more interested in the final scene, where the Man in Black breaks the bottle of wine.

So Jacob said the island is like the cork in the bottle of wine, keeping evil away from the rest of the world. The MIB smashes the bottle at the end of the episode. I think this symbolizes what he plans to do to the island. If he can’t get off the island, then the next best thing would be to destroy it. Could this be why we saw the island at the bottom of the ocean at the beginning of the season? Could the alternate timeline be what happens if the MIB is successful? I wish we could get a better definition of “evil.” Is it just bad things happening, or actual evil spirits ready to take over the world? In the alternate timeline, things don’t seem that bad for the majority of the Losties. I’ve stewed on it for awhile, so let me give you my prediction.

Here’s what I think is going down with Jacob and the MIB. I think it’s inevitable that the “evil’ is going to get off the island, and Jacob knows this. So, Jacob brings real people from the world to the island in the hopes that the MIB will see that people of the world are genuinely good. This will help him to change his mind about destroying (taking over, ruling, whatever) the world and treating its people badly. At the same time, Jacob tries to get other people that he thinks could eventually take his place as the protector to the island, because he knows at some point the MIB will kill him, so he needs backups. This is evidenced by the fact that Richard is obviously not one of the Candidates, but he still made it to the island. This makes me think that someone on the Black Rock WAS a Candidate, but the Smoke Monster killed him or her. The Monster scanned Richard and let him live, because he thought Richard was a simpleton and could be tricked into killing Jacob. In other words, the tricks that didn’t work on Richard, worked on Ben. To make a long email shorter, I think someone will have to sacrifice their real lives off the island to stay on the island to become its protector, like Jacob. And in my opinion, its gotta be Jack or Hurley.

Speaking of Hurley, I guess we learned the he can in fact talk to the dead. So I guess all the people he talked to in the past weren’t really figments of his imagination, they were “ghosts.” With all the dead people on the island, I have to believe he will stumble upon some more old favorites before the end of the season.

QUICK HITS

Richard was from Tenerife in the Canary Islands. Tenerife is rumored to be the tip of the highest mountain on the continent of Atlantis. I think that was a wink from the writers to all the people that thought the island could be the remains of Atlantis. Maybe their way of saying “Close, but no cigar.” Sorry Shawn.

The timeline suggests that Richard was born in the 1830’s. Kind of a letdown for me. I was hoping he was a lot older.

Well peeps, we only have 8 episodes left together. I’m sure you are all near tears just considering that sad moment. I’ve been asked what I’m gonna do with myself after Lost, where I will channel my overactive mind, and I really don’t know. I find myself vexed (boom) at the question. I’m such a pop culture junkie, and I love to comment on TV, movies, books, video games etc., I don’t know if I can stay away for that long. I mean, I know the entire theme to “Thundercats,” I could tell you George’s ATM code on Seinfeld, and I am pretty sure that “Back to the Future” is the most underrated franchise in movie history, but good luck if you want me to help balance your check book. I’m sure something will come up (that’s what she said; couldn’t help it). Well Losties,

I hate to say I told you so, but.....Sawyer's a cop. I think it's pronounced BOO-YAH! Now that we've got that out of the way, let's do a little recap on last week's episode 'Recon.' This first part will be a little willy nilly, but I'm sure you can all hang at this point.

We had it all in this episode didn't we. Sawyer got some (twice), Little House on the Prairie made an appearance, and Charlotte cleaned up pretty well for a dead chick. At first watching, I thought the episode was pretty boring. Really, this was more of a set-up episode to me. Setting up things to come in the future. But then I smashed the Lost pinata a second time, and sweet little treats started to rain down. With the 5-second rule in full effect, I picked up the following:

On the island, when Fake Locke was giving his pep talk to the remaining Others, Claire grabbed Kate's hand and held it. Then, at the end, she gave Kate a sideways look and let go. Seemed innocent enough, but I think there was a lot more to it. I think it was a test. A test to see if Fake Locke had got his hooks into Kate yet, which he hasn't (yet). In other words, it was a quick check to see if she was infected.

In the alt timeline, something's up with Sawyer. So we know he's looking for Anthony Cooper (Locke's dad, remember?). The only other thing we heard about Locke's dad was he was going to be at Locke and Helen's wedding. Could Sawyer become the ultimate wedding crasher later in the season? I don't know, but I do know that Sawyer better be watching his back because Charlotte wasn't just looking for a T-shirt in that dresser drawer. That bizznitch was there to steal something, and I have no doubt she's in cahoots with Miles. Miles checked the credit card because he's tracking Sawyer, not because he's worried about him. Did you also catch Miles said Charlotte works with his dad at the museum. His dad's Pierre Chang, remember? So, if they are collecting info on Sawyer, who could they be collecting it for?

So can we all agree that the Smoke Monster is the one who killed all the people on the plane? Good. Next topic.

In the alt reality, every main character has looked in a mirror at some point in their story. Sawyer looked in the mirror and then smashed it. This is yet another Alice in Wonderland reference. 'Through the Looking Glass." White rabbits. Mirrors. Very strange indeed.

The story from Fake Locke about his crazy mother was very interesting. It might give us a hint as to what some of the Lost story could be based on. I've always been a little hesitant to bring religion into the discussion, mainly because I hope that's not what the show is based on. Personally, I would rather it be supernatural, time-traveling, ufo craziness. But the similarities are really starting to pile up. It's obvious just by watching the show that bits and pieces from multiple religions could be used to explain parts of the show. One of our readers, Darren, emailed me something he had discovered along the way:

I feel that Jacob is representative of Christ/God (they are equals) and the guy from the beginning of the episode that wants to kill Jacob is indeed Satan. Here are some parallels to the Gospel story. God's people, Israel, waited a long time to see their Savior and expected something completely different than what they actually saw when Jesus revealed Himself to them. Likewise, Ben represents the Jews. Ben waited a long time to see Jacob, obeying His commands (via Richard, maybe representative of the prophets) all the while. When Ben finally does see Jacob, he is not the powerful being that Ben expects and does not answer the questions that Ben has in his mind (i.e., Ben still has to trust in what Jacob says). So, Ben kills Jacob. When Jesus came, he was not what the Jews expected and did not answer all of the questions that they had (i.e., will they be brought out from under oppression and Roman rule), so they demanded Jesus' death. Jesus knew full well that coming to earth (revealing himself to his people) would result in his death, but through the work of prophets (prophecying precisely the arrival of the Savior), he led the Jews to himself. Similarly, Richard led Ben precisely to wear Jacob was. Anyhow, if this theory is correct, Jacob is not dead. Once Christ was killed, he overcame death, visited his followers, then ascended into Heaven to be with the Father. All of this to bring glory to Himself and rescue his chosen people. It's seems to be shaping up to a fitting end next season in the series finale. We'll see.
I'll admit, that makes a lot of sense. There are numerous parallels between Lost and stories in the Bible. But I don't think any one of them fits quite like this one. I've always had this one in my back pocket, but never really wanted to use it. I mentioned it in one Lost Lines last year, but I'll use the magic of Wikipedia to expand upon it now. This is the story of Jacob and Esau:

Jacob and his twin brother, Esau, were born to Isaac and Rebekah after 20 years of marriage, when Isaac was 60 (Genesis 25:20, 25:26
Rebekah was extremely uncomfortable during her double pregnancy and went to inquire of God why she was suffering. The Midrash says that whenever she would pass a house of Torah study, Jacob would struggle to come out; whenever she would pass a house of idolatry, Esau would agitate to come out.^[5] She received the prophecy that twins were fighting in her womb and would continue to fight all their lives.

The boys displayed very different natures as they matured. "Esau became a hunter, a man of the field, but Jacob was a simple man, a dweller in tents" (Genesis 25:27). Moreover, the attitudes of their parents toward them also differ: "Isaac loved Esau because game was in his mouth, but Rebecca loved Jacob" (ibid., 25:28)

As the first born, Esau was entitled to inherit the wealth of his father Isaac after his death. However, he sold his birthright to Jacob^[4] in exchange for a "mess of pottage" (meal of lentils) (Genesis 25:29–34)
In Genesis 27:1–40, Jacob uses deception to trick their father Isaac into giving Jacob the blessing normally due to the eldest, instead of giving it to Esau. Jacob's deception also engenders controversy, while motivated in fact by Rebekah, the mother of both Jacob and Esau.

In Genesis 27:5–7, "Rebekah was listening while Isaac spoke to his son Esau. So when Esau went to the field to hunt for game to bring home, Rebekah said to her son Jacob, "Behold, I heard your father speak to your brother Esau, saying, 'Bring me some game and prepare a savory dish for me, that I may eat, and bless you in the presence of the lord before my death.'". Rebekah then instructs Jacob in an elaborate deception through which Jacob pretends to be Esau, in order to steal from Esau Isaac's blessing and birthright—which in theory Esau had agreed to give to Jacob. As a result, Jacob becomes the spiritual leader of the family after Isaac's death and the heir of the promises of Abraham (Genesis 27:37).
Esau, naturally, is furious and vows to kill Jacob (Genesis 27:41). Once again Rebekah intervenes to save her youngest son Jacob from being murdered by her eldest son, Esau.
Therefore, at Rebekah's urging, Jacob flees to a distant land.
And if that wasn't enough, here's the real kicker.....

In the Book of Jubilees (which is neither part of the Jewish nor most Christian canons), Esau's father, Isaac, compels Esau to swear not to attack or kill Jacob after Isaac has died. However, after the death of Isaac, the sons of Esau convince their father to lead them, and hired mercenaries, against Jacob in order to kill Jacob and his family and seize their wealth (especially the portion of Isaac's wealth that Isaac had left to Jacob upon his death). In the ensuing battle, Jacob kills Esau with an arrow. The sons of Jacob then defeat the rest of the attackers despite overwhelming odds.
Some of the sons of Esau are spared, but they are sworn to serve and pay fealty to Jacob.

Sounds pretty interesting, huh? Could this be the basis of the relationship between Jacob and the Man in Black? Or more accurately, Esau? Sounds like Esau and his mother didn't get along very well. This also brings back the argument of who's actually the bad guy, Jacob or the MIB? Maybe we only know one side of the story...

I do know one thing for sure; we are in for one badass episode this week! We finally get the lowdown on Richard (and a lot more I bet) and I'm as giddy as a schoolgirl for this one! Let's check it out:

I'm going out on a limb here and saying when it's all said and done, this could be one of the best episodes of Lost ever...EVER! I think it will be that good. I would advise you to turn off your cellphone, unplug your land line, tie your kids up in the basement with granny, and bolt the door shut! If your significant other insists on talking during the show...murder is an option. Call your cable or satellite provider to come over and service your DVR to make sure everything is in proper working order.

Personally, I will be rolled up in the fetal position in front of the TV all day, with only pizza rolls, Dt Dew, and adult diapers to sustain me. So if the neighbors call complaining about a strange smell coming from my house, tell them not to worry, it's Tuesday, and Ross is home patiently waiting for Lost.

Losties,

BEN IS NOT GOOD!!! HE'S AN EVIL BASTARD!!! AND THEY BETTER NOT TRY TO CHANGE THAT ONE BIT!!! I don't want to buy this redemption baloney for even one teeny tiny milisecond. So don't give it to me. We had fresh graves, submarines, and Black Rock staredowns. Just a typical Lost episode. But I think they snuck in a few hinty nuggets in the process. Like.....

We learned (more like we were reminded) that killing yourself on the island is easier said than done. Jack tested the theory to the extreme in the belly of the Black Rock. We can apply this revelation to one situation in particular, when Locke tried to hang himself in the motel room last season. From what we know now, he wouldn't have been successful. But no worries, because Ben finished the job for him.

Since this episode was all about 'Dr Linus,' let's talk about him for a moment. From this episode, we can guess-timate a few things. If Jacob touches someone, their wounds heal quicker and they become seemingly immortal (as long as Jacob wants them to be, anyway). Using this theory, we can tell that Jacob never touched Ben. Remember Ben has had numerous problems while on the island, including the spinal surgery Jack had to perform in Season 3. He doesn't heal, and he has aged on the island from a young boy to a man. This probably means the whole time Ben believed he was interacting with Jacob (in Jacob's Shack out in the woods), he was really taking orders from the Smoke Monster. When Ilana and her crew came to the island, they burned down the shack on their trek across the island. She said someone else had been using the shack and that Jacob hadn't been there for some time, obviously we now know that someone was the Smoke Monster.. The protective ash ring around the shack had been broken. This means ever since the show began, the Smoke Monster has been giving the marching orders for the Others. This whole time! This leads me to another question to which I have no answer: When did Jacob leave the Others and the Smoke Monster secretly take his place? Could it have been as far back as Widmore's time on the island? If so, could Widmore have known that something was up when Ben was kicking him off the island, and Widmore has tried to get back ever since to help Jacob? Honestly, I think the whole point of this episode was to get the submarine to the island. This way, there is at least some way to get off the island for anyone that survives the upcoming events.

After each episode, I believe more and more that the alternate timeline really has nothing at all to do with what's happening on the island. As we learned, in that timeline, Ben and his dad DID go to the island, but left at some point. This at least gives us our first hint that some of the Losties in that timeline could have been on the island.

Is it just me, or does it look like the wardrobe people on the show are going for the 'child predator' look for Ben at the school?

Hopefully he doesn't show up on a Dateline Special in the near future uttering the phrase "I was just making sure she was OK. There are a lot of freaks out there." Yeah, right. That's why you showed up with a sixer of strawberry wine coolers and a box of condoms. Have fun in prison sicko. Anyhoo...

Let's take a look at the preview for the next episode. It's a Sawyer episode called 'Recon', so I'm sure hearts will be broken and money will be stolen.

Well Losties,

No snappy banter, let's just get straight to the meaty Lost scoop!

Over the last few weeks I have been asked a ton of questions. So I thought, why not put them out there for all to ponder. Some questions will be basic, some advanced, and some questions will be one's you never thought to ask. The point? I would love for us all to be on the same page going forward. It's stupid for me to sit here and talk about the MIB, and have people thinking I've gone off on some tangent about Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. But I have to admit, I love those little mind eraser doohickies, and those little coffee-drinking aliens. Oh, and remember when that alien skins th.......see what I mean?

So it seems Jacob and the Man in Black are choosing up players like a game of 4th grade dodgeball. The MIB has Sayid, Claire and possibly Sawyer (doubt it). Jacob has tabbed Jack, Hurley, Illana, Frank, and a few others. But like you, I have lots of questions. So let's go through a few of 'em. Like Lenny from the Simpson's said "Ask questions. That's how you learn dumbass." Ahhh...words to live by.

So before we get into the questions, let's clear up one thing.
The Man in Black = MIB = Fake Locke = The Smoke Monster

Question 1:  Are Claire, Sayid, Christian Shepard, John Locke, and Eko's brother all the smoke monster?

Answer: No. The smoke monster is only one being that can shape itself into many forms. But, as far as we know, the smoke monster can only take a form if the dead body of that person is on the island. But, he (it...whatever) can revive a recently dead body if it is not properly buried or disposed of. Let's explain with an example. Because of the last few episodes, we assume that Claire, Sayid and Ben have all been healed or returned to life on the island. Ben was taken to the spring as a boy after he was shot by Sayid, if you remember, and obviously, Sayid was recently in the spring.  But there are differences. As far as we know, Ben wasn't actually dead when Richard took him to the spring.  Therefore, I think that's why Ben could function just fine for the rest of his life, although he's still a little off. Sayid was dead.  Was Claire dead? We don't know at this point. I have always contended that it was possible that she died when that house blew up in Dharmaville, and the smoke monster revived her to run with him. If the smoke monster revives you (Claire and Sayid), he does NOT become you. But this process leaves you on the edge of sanity. If the spring heals you, you just might not come back right (Ben). Case in point: the smoke monster did not revive Locke.  Locke's body is dead (and now buried) on the island.  The MIB is just using Locke's form. There is only one Claire or one Sayid on the island. Their bodies were revived from the dead. Locke's wasn't. Kinda like someone using a dead guy's social security number to get a new credit card; it's not him, but it might as well be. It's identity theft of the highest order. And yes, it's confusing, but this is Lost, not Dancing with the Stars.

Question 2: What's the difference between the stuff happening on the island and off the island?

Answer: There's a big difference. The stuff happening on the island is a continuation of the events that we have followed on Lost since Season 1. Everything has happened just as we've seen it to date. Planes crashing, hatches exploding, buttons being pushed, etc. etc.
The events off the island are MUCH harder to explain. At first I just believed we were being shown what would happen if the plane had never crashed. But now, we know that's not right, because Jack has a son, Nadia is married to Sayid's brother, Hurley is lucky and successful, Locke and his father aren't at odds. All these things and more date back much farther than just a trip to Sydney and back. So I had to rethink my conclusions. It seems much more plausible to me that this "new world" is a result of Jacob NOT ever meddling in the Losties lives. This would drastically reshape the world of all the Losties. When Jack looked in the lighthouse glass, he saw his childhood home reflected back. Jack said "He's been watching us this whole time!" So obviously, Jacob has been involved in their lives forever. So without his involvement, their lives could be drastically different. Jack could have a son or Kate could have really killed someone. Bad people could turn out good, or vice versa. Look at Ben, he's a school teacher for fart's sake! Now, this is one possibility (a little obvious, maybe too obvious), but I think there is another, much more sinister one. This possibility would fall under "What If?"
What If the alternate reality scenario is a smoke monster creation? What If this reality isn't even real? In this reality, all the Losties are getting what they want, to a degree. Jack, although divorced, has a family. He's had a breakthrough with his son. They get along.  Jack isn't a drunk, or drugged out of his mind. Things are looking up.  Locke still can't walk (and we still don't know why), but his life is better. He and Helen are getting married.  He and his dad get along. Kate, although still a jailbird, has escaped and is on the run.  All Kate's ever wanted was to escape. To run away from her life. Sayid isn't with Nadia, but she's alive, and that's a pretty good start. Sayid said it himself, he didn't deserve to be with Nadia. So maybe that's what his mind has created. Hurley is rich, happy, successful, and well, still really fat, but hey, can't win 'em all. And what has the MIB been promising people? He told Sayid he could have whatever he wanted. He told Claire he would reunite her with Aaron. It all reminds me of the Matrix. Whatever you see in your mind is real. What If the Losties are all in some dark chamber, their body's laying on the ground lifeless, but in their minds, they are happy and living lives that are somehow better than their old ones. And somehow, the MIB can feed on these thoughts, like some kind of psychic vampire.
But to properly answer the question, I don't think the off-island stuff is real. I just think it's one big What If scenario.

Question 3: Is Jacob really the "good guy" is this Lost story?

Answer: Honestly, I have no reason to believe he is at all. Why, just because he says so? If the alternate reality really is what the Lostie's lives would be like without ever encountering Jacob, aren't they better off for the most part? Just the plane crashing and all the stuff that has happened on the island would be enough to classify Jacob as a bad dude. So if Jacob has meddled in all of their lives, maybe he ruined the Man In Black's life too. At the very least, Jacob has helped keep the MIB on the island against his will for hundreds of years. Wouldn't that make you wanna stab someone's face off? Can't we assume Jacob knew Sawyer's parents were going to die? He definitely knew Locke would get pushed out a window. He was there to meet him when Locke hit the ground. He knew Jack's dad would die in Australia and Jack would have to go get him. He knew all these bad things, and either wouldn't or couldn't warn anyone. Even worse, after these awful events in each Lostie's life, Jacob used their pain to manipulate them. Stay classy Jacob! So no, at this point I can't assume Jacob is "good."

4. Is Sawyer on Team Evil now?

Answer: Hell to the no! Well...let me rephrase that....Hell to the maybe not!?!? Because of his grief for Juliet, I don't think Sawyer cares about anything. Think Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon. But since Kate is walking with the MIB and his crew right now, I think there will come a time when Sawyer has to do something heroic to safely get her back to Jack et al. Unfortunately for Sawyer lovers, I don't think he'll live happily ever after come the end of the season. But I do forsee an all-time throwdown in the works between Sawyer and Evil Undead Zombie Sayid, and one won't survive.

5. When will we learn the history of the MIB and Jacob?

Answer: This one's easy. If you looked on the website this week (lostlinesbyross.blogspot.com, tell your friends...hell, tell your enemies...what do I care, they're your enemies, not mine) , I put up an updated episode guide. It looks like in Ep 15 "Across the Sea" we will get all the scoop on these two. I posted the following:
Ep 15 -- "Across the Sea" -- Jacob and the Man in Black. From what I'm hearing, this episode won't have anyone we are familiar with, in other words, no Jack, Kate, Sawyer, etc. It's also rumored this ep will take place in the year 23 A.D. That's not a typo, 23 A.D.!!! This Ep has to be the history of Jacob and the Man in Black.
So, needless to say, it sounds awesome.

Questions, questions, questions. I've got a thousand more, but we have to leave something for the imagination, don't we?

Here's a question I don't know the answer to: Where is the MIB taking all these followers? Maybe he knows a way off the island that no you else does.

The MIB always offers a drink of water from his canteen to others, but never once this season has he taken a drink himself.

Jin is obviously doing business with some pretty bad dudes. I still stick by the theory that he and Sun aren't married in the alternate timeline.

THEORY!!!!
I've been marinating on this one for quite some time. Since the first episode this season to be exact. Now it's time to unveil it.
In the off-island timeline, I am going to say Sawyer is some type of law enforcement official. Not just because it's opposite day, but because it would make his story very interesting. I don't know if he's a policeman, detective, FBI, whatever, but he's something. Here are my reasons: There are too many troublemakers on the plane. Jin is a gangsta, Kate is an accused murder, and Sayid, well I think Sayid is an assassin. I think Sawyer is probably tracking one of them, my guess would be Jin. Remember Jacob gave Sawyer the pen to write his note as a child. Without Jacob and the note, it got harder for Sawyer to hang on to all that hate. Instead of being a con man, he became a policeman. This painful event in his life ended up pushing him towards using his con man skills for good, not bad. Another hint is the name of the upcoming Sawyer-centric episode, "Recon." It sounds military to me. So that's my theory. Please don't stone me if I'm wrong.

Well Losties,

First and foremost, let me apologize for the lateness of this here Lost Lines. I would say I was busy helping out at a soup kitchen or saving a cat from a tree, but honestly, I was sick last week and had neither the concentration or the inclination to write anything witty or profound. If I would have tried (and believe me, I did), you would have ended up with the following:

“Losties,

Locke is cool, Charlie sucks, I’m out!”

And really, would that have made any of us happy campers? I think not. So come down from that ledge,

untie the noose, put down the gun, and settle in for a long read. There will be predictions, spoilers, insights, and even a theory or two. One thing there won’t be? Robitussin. Damn you Robitussin.

I GOT YOUR INSIGHTS RIGHT HERE!!!!

I think the alternate timeline that takes place off the island can be one of two things. Either it's a result of Juliet smashing the bomb, and all the Losties futures were changed because of it; or, it's what life would have been for the Losties if Jacob had never meddled in their lives. I say this because if the island was destroyed by Juliet in 1977, then there would obviously be no reason for Jacob to manipulate their lives to get them to the island. It's underwater! But just like deja vu, some things just seem strange in the Lostie's new lives. Jack's appendix, for example. If you remember in Season 3 (I think 3, maybe 4, I don't know, it's midnight...get off my back!!), Jack gets sick and Juliet takes his appendix out while on the island. The same thing with the cut Jack finds on his neck in the first Ep on this season (that cut is driving me crazy!!!). Also, when Kate is fleeing the airport, she gives a fleeting, knowing glance at Jack as he stands in line. Very deja vu-y. So my question becomes: Will these two realities begin to slowly bleed together as the season progresses? Or will they stay separate until the very end? What would happen if island Jack started to "remember" the existence of a son he never had? Or Los Angeles Sawyer begins to think about a woman he just can't quite put his finger on? But the one thing they all remember is an island. And maybe finding that island will give them the answers they seek. That could be one way to bring everyone together. Let me blow your mind a little more; what if these two Jacks from two different worlds met? I'll give you a minute to collect yourselves....

But peeps, let me share MY pain with you. My pain comes from older questions. Not questions about the Big Bang, or Nostradamus, or that age-old query "Where's the Beef?" Questions like:

*Why couldn't women on the island have babies? Do you remember all that business? There are so many questions on Lost from the previous seasons that still haven't been answered to my liking. So I've sat, and I've thought. And I have been vexed lo these many moons. But then, like a light coming on in a donut shop at 3am, it hit me! It's time to apply what we have learned of late to questions asked previously! And here's what I came up with....

Just as the Man in Black uses dead bodies on the island as his meat puppets, maybe he could have somehow possessed a newborn in the same way. I think he has to have a new body to get off the island and back to his "home," and that's what he's trying to con Sawyer into doing. To avoid this, Jacob had to put the kibosh on babies on the island. In Season 1, the first thing the Others did was take the children away to the temple, not because they were twisted kidnapping freaks, but presumably where they would be safe from the MIB.

LAND HO!!!

So, we have a lighthouse with a dial. IMO, more important than the lighthouse, and the names, and the numbers, is who Jacob said was on their way to the island. I think it can only be one person. Can you guess who it is Brutha?

KILL THE LIGHTS!!! CUE THE FIREWORKS!!! BLAST THE INSANELY LOUD METAL MUSIC!!! IT’S BACK!!! YOU KNEW THEY ALL COULDN’T MAKE IT TO THE END OF THE SEASON ALIVE!!! I GIVE YOU…..DEATHWATCH 2010!!!!!

Ahhh…just like a pair of comfortable slippers. Deathwatch 2010! Who lives, who dies. I have guesses. Do you? We can double our pleasure this season on Lost because we have TWO flavors of Losties from which to pick! Island and Bizarro World varieties! Let’s do this thing!

5. Island Kate – She’s your favorite felon! She loves triangles more than a trigonometry teacher! And her storyline on the show HAS to end at some point.

Sorry Kate…you don’t get Jack, you don’t get Sawyer, (and you definitely don’t get Aaron, I mean, you lost him in a grocery store last season) but we’ve got a lovely parting gift for you…your very own headstone!!! Well…not really a headstone. Really just two sticks tied together in the form of a cross, but well, we’re on an island, so what do you want from us? As soon as Kate does her part to reunite Claire with Baby Aaron, she’s toast!

4. He snaps necks with his legs and breaks hearts with his lustrous hair! He has an evil infection spreading towards his heart of gold….Heeeeeee’s Sayid!!

In his spare time he enjoys torturing prisoners, assassinating rivals, and even shooting defenseless children!!! He’s Nadia long for this world if you ask me! (I apologize for that one, I just couldn’t help it.) Since Jack won’t feed him the poison pill, someone will have to finish the job. Once you’re a zombie, you don’t decide you don’t like the taste of brains! I look for the samurai master Dogen to finish the job at some point.

3. He loves reading, cave exploration (get your minds out of the gutter), and drinking alone in Dharmaville. He’s running with a rough crew including the OG (Original Gangsta to the uninitiated) of the island. His love is dead and the MIB is trying to get in his head. It’s Sawyer!

If I’m right and Fake Locke needs Sawyer’s body to get off the island, he might not take no for an answer. Or could the S-man be running the ultimate con on the supernatural psycho?

2. He's into pouting (over Kate), shouting (at anyone), and doubting (everyone). He loves beards, pills, and booze, and has more daddy issues than an orphanage.

His turn-offs include using this inside voice, coming up with good plans, and living. I have a feeling the last one won't be a problem for much longer. Jack has run his course, and as Jacob said "There's one more thing Jack needs to do," and after that, he's history! Bizarro Jack's life seems a lot better anyway. One out of two ain't bad!

1. Is there any doubt who #1 could be? If there's one person on the island who has it coming, I mean REALLY has it coming, it's this guy! Killed his dad...check! Killed Jacob...check! KILLED JOHN FREAKIN' LOCKE...CHECK!!! If you off my main man Locke, you gotta go!

So Ben, nice knowin' ya! You're one of the best villians ever, but it's time to pay the piper. Make it fabulous, make it horrific, but MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!

Lost's Sayid (Naveen Andrews) may be in for a couple difficult talks — not one, but two of his former lovers are returning to the show. Both Shannon (Maggie Grace), his dead island girlfriend, and Nadia (Andrea Gabriel), his dead off-island wife, will return in the final season.

Production on several films initially kept Grace from reprising her role as Shannon, Boone's stepsister who was killed by Ana Lucia in Season 2. "We're really excited about having her back on the show," executive producer Carlton Cuse told Entertainment Weekly, "and we have a good story for her."

Nadia also was murdered — her life taken by one of Charles Widmore's assassins, who ran her over in a crosswalk as Sayid helplessly looked on.

Reps for the ABC series would not comment to TVGuide.com on when Grace and Gabriel will return, how long they'll appear on the show or whether either will suck face with Sayid.

Libby (Cynthia Watros), Michael (Harold Perrineau), Charlotte (Rebecca Mader) and Daniel Faraday (Jeremy Davies) are among the other departed characters we'll see again in the final season of Lost.

What's up my Lostie brothers and sisters? I'm home sick today and thought "why wallow in my own misery when I could be out there making you all miserable as well?" This week's episode is entitled "The Lighthouse." It sounds Jack-centric to me. Here's the info and a few teasers courtesy of ABC:

So out of all that, what I find the most interesting is that this episode is written by Lindelof and Cuse, the two creators of the show. Usually, they only write 3-5 episodes per season, and they're usually biggies. That leads me to believe this Ep might have gooey LOST goodness seeping out of every pore. So be prepared for a shocker, and if my wife asks, I've been asleep in bed all day!

Locke-ilicious!!!

LOSTGASM!!! That's why Locke episodes are always the best! A fly-by courtesy of the smoke monster, Sawyer wallowing in his own drunken filth, and bloody children appearing out of nowhere? Awesome! I'm not even sure where to start after that episode. There are so many tasty tidbits to mull over! And none tastier than a cave filled with names....

The first thing I thought of is "What do the numbers actually mean?" And I noticed the order. It went in descending numerical order:
42 Kwon
23 Shephard
16 Jarrah
15 Ford
8 Reyes
4 Locke

This makes me think it could be a countdown, in order of who Jacob thought would be the best 'candidate' to protect the island. So now I'm more interested in the names and numbers we don't see, 1,2,3,5 etc. etc. Also, where's Kate? Nowhere to be found. Doesn't look good for her. But, not so fast my friend! What if it's all a trick? I mean, look who all the info is coming from, Fake Locke. What if instead of a list made by Jacob, it's a list made by the Man in Black! A hit list! Maybe he has to work just as hard to kill the people on the list as Jacob does to manipulate them to come to the island. At this point, how can we even be sure that Jacob is good and Fake Locke is evil? We can only take them at their word. There is no third party to compare anything against for any kind of verification. But what if there is?

The bloody ghost kid in the episode told Fake Locke that he couldn't kill 'him.' Who? My guess would be Sawyer. The Man in Black wants to go 'home.' He's said it multiple times in the last few episodes. Where could home be, you say? Give us answers Ross, you say! Well let me break out my shiny new theory for you. It's just been washed and waxed, so hands off!!! And if you don't like it, go to the Martha Stuart website or something. I'm sure she's making some kind of lame quilt out of old sweatshirts or whatnot.

THEORY TIME!!!

So we now know that this evil being inhabiting Locke wants off the island. He's been stuck there against his will for who knows how long. But, to do this he has to follow a certain set of rules, as does Jacob. I think we have discerned at least two of the rules since the end of last season:

1. He couldn't kill Jacob...at least not by himself. So he found a loophole and convinced someone else to do the dirty work for him. Conversely, this would lead me to believe that Jacob probably can't kill him either.
2. The Man in Black can't kill one of the Candidate's that Jacob (or whoever?!?!) has chosen. But they can influence their decisions. Or flat out try to trick them into doing his bidding.

I think while on the island, the Man in Black can control and use any UNBURIED dead body on the island, as I said in the previous Lost Lines. That's why the Others buried their dead or sent them out to sea as quickly as possible, so they can't be used for various nefarious reasons. And yes I did just rhyme 'various' and 'nefarious,' and yes, I am totally bad ass. Autographs after the show. Now at the end of the ep, the MIB (Man in Black, I can only write it out so many times before I can't stand it any more) tells Sawyer that he would have 3 options:

1. Stay on the island to assume the role as its new protector;
2. Stay on the island and do nothing; I guess he would just continue to kick it at Dharmaville in his soiled-looking underpants, or
3. Leave the island altogether. But they would have to do it together.

Herein lies the trick. I think the MIB needs one of two things. He either needs the protector of the island (Jacob or whoever) to willfully let him off the island, or he needs a nice, fresh live body to inhabit to get off the island, and this body needs to be given willfully. So if Sawyer agreed, booyah, new body. Similar to the fact that you have to willfully invite a vampire into your house, or it can't cross the threshold. The question would then be: What would the MIB do when he got off the island? Wreak havoc or just fade away into the world? If somewhere on this world is even his home....

THINK FAST!!!

Did you catch the picture of Locke and his dad at Locke's desk right before he got fired?

Earlier in the ep, Locke's fiance Helen mentioned that Locke's dad would be coming to the wedding. Would you invite the man that stole your kidney and pushed you out a window to your wedding? I don't think so. Which tells me in this reality, none of that happened. So how did Locke break his back in this storyline? We shall see.

Ben Linus, the European History teacher? Looked like a total tool box to me. Nice haircut, by the way. And the Harry Potter glasses were a nice touch.

Helen's shirt said 'Peace and Karma." A hint maybe?

A LOOK INTO THE BIZARRO WORLD

I'll be honest, I wasn't too pumped up about the alternate reality storyline at the beginning of the season. I thought it would be boring rehash and fairly predictable. WRONG! Now I see they are changing lots of core details about the Losties lives before and after the plane crash. I hesitate to guess too much about this storyline, because it might ruin some of the surprises, but I'm not here to hold hands and kick soda cans with you peeps, I'm here to talk some serious Lost trash! Don't bring that weak stuff in here! This is my house! And in my house, we speculate!

* I think at least one of the Losties will have a kid in the alternate reality. I don't mean like an infant. I mean a grownup-type child. At least old enough to walk and talk.
* I think we will be surprised with some of the Losties having jobs that are very different from what we saw in the past. We saw that in this ep, as Ben was a teacher. Faraday as a janitor in some Dharma laboratory would be the bomb! What about Sawyer as a florist?
* Who's to say that all the Losties are even alive in this world? We've yet to see the likes of Sayid, Charlotte, Penny, or Miles.
* In this reality, I think we'll learn that Kate really is a murderer. It's just the way she said "Would you believe me if I told you I was innocent?" to Claire in the first ep that made me think "No, I would not, but thank you for asking."

Well Losties,

First things first. Thanks for going to the website, lostlinesbyross.blogspot.com. I've already got a lot of hits, not many comments, but a lot of hits. I can't believe how much easier it is for me to just put info on there. Videos, pictures, text, I even did a poll this week! I just wish I would have started it a long time ago. I will definitely be utilizing it much more this season. I don't have a set time when I do things just yet, but I'm trying to iron all that out. I will usually put the Lost Lines up on the website the night before the email comes out. Just FYI. Now on to the reason we're all here...

In this episode we learned "What Kate Does." I can tell you one thing she didn't do...entertain me. I thought that episode was some hardcore filler. It didn't totally suck (what a ringing endorsement), but it was far from great. It just seems to me that this is the final season, should there really be slow episodes or filler? I think not!

Now before we get too far into this episode, I want to rehash some things from the season premiere. I always have to watch an episode twice so I can go over it with a fine tooth comb the second time around. It's usually pretty productive, and this episode was no exception. Sometimes, things just get stick out like a sore thumb and I can't quit thinking about them. For example:

-When Jack goes into the plane's bathroom, he notices a cut on his neck. Let's refresh our brains for a moment. You've read this long enough to know what Uncle Rossy's gonna say next....Lost NEVER shows something for no reason. EVER. That cut came from somewhere. So, in the island timeline, over the next few weeks, watch to see if Jack gets cut, stabbed, shot, or bit on his neck. If he does, that could be a HUGE clue to what the end of the show will look like. The question I would pose is this: Could we possibly be watching the ending right now? Could this new "flash sideways" as the creators are calling it, actually be the ending? I say no, because the characters are different in this alternate storyline. Different? What kind of poppycock is this Ross? Well....

-Hurley's lucky, for one thing. He won the lottery, and is doing well. And last week I told you that Desmond had a wedding ring on his finger. Well, after further viewing and listening, I've stumbled across another possible jewel. Sun and Jin get pulled aside in the airport and the screener begins to go through Jin's bag, where he finds the watch and the money. But, if you watch carefully, Jin doesn't have a wedding ring on, and neither does Sun. Think I'm taking it too far? Oh but wait, there's more. After Jin is taken away, the other security person comes over and says "Ms Paik, if you can say anything to clear this up, now's the time." Did you catch it? I'll give you a minute............do you have it? At this point, her name shouldn't be Ms. Paik, it should be Mrs. Kwon. She's married to Jin Kwon. So why are they calling her Ms. Paik? So my guess is that in this reality, they aren't married! At least not yet. But that's enough with the conspiracies theories, on to bigger and better things.

Let's talk death! Or more accurately, sickness. So Sayid dies, then comes back to life. Whew! That was a close one. But apparently, he didn't come back alone. Is he possessed by the spirit of Jacob? Uh, not so much. Instead we learn he is infected with something and needs to swallow a poison pill to do the job that a bullet couldn't. Dogen (the new Chinese head honcho) uses the word "claimed" to describe what has happened to Sayid. It reminded me of a game of chess, where you claim the other player's pieces one by one. But more importantly, I think this shows us what has been happening the whole time on the island. I think that when someone dies on the island, they become the pawn of the Man in Black, Fake Locke, the Smoke Monster, etc. After death, he can use that body as a kind of puppet to do his bidding. Examples would be Christian Sheppard, Locke and Claire. I bet this process can either leave you dead or insane. But there is a certain amount of time after death, that a body can be disposed of properly without consequence. Remember last season when we learned part of the treaty between the Dharmas and the Others was that none of the Other's dead could be buried in the ground. And when that happened, they had to go dig them back up. I'm dancing around the word that I really want to use, and that word is zombies. Once you are infected, you become a shell of your former self. Your emotions don't match the "old you." For example, Sayid would never have willingly let someone strap him to a chair and fry him with electricity without a fight. But instead, he pleaded around like he was scared. I don't buy it! The real Sayid would have been kicking and screaming. Another example would be Claire. Claire left Aaron in the middle of the night and walked off into the jungle, never to be seen again, until this week. At the time it just seemed strange. There was no reason for it. I contend that Claire was already dead at that point, and in this transitioning phase of conversion by the Man in Black, the very same phase that Sayid is in right now. Like Dogen said, once the "infection" reaches his heart, it's over. Whatever that means. To me it means he becomes one evil SOB. I think Claire died in the house explosion at Dharmaville when Keamey and the other mercenaries were attacking. Now it seems as if she is some kind of Rosseau nutjob, setting traps out in the jungle.

Does anyone really believe the adoptive parents split up and no longer want Claire's baby? Child please! Somethings up. I wouldn't doubt if later on we see that scene from another angle, with someone hiding behind the door telling her to lie and get rid of them.

Evil Ethan turns out being Claire's doctor and trying to save the baby, instead of trying to take it like in the first season.

Where did Claire learn how to make all these jungle traps and whatnot? Someone had to teach her.

Lost Is Back!!!!

Some people didn't get last week's email, so I've decided to re-post it here.

Well Losties,

We've been through a lot together. Plane crashes, shootings, stabbings, dynamite explosions, hatch explosions, boat explosions, plane explosions (really all kinds of explosions, but you get the picture) flaming arrows, bear attacks, wild hog attacks, drownings (my favorite), car wrecks, hangings, chokings, smoke monster beatings, and various other forms of dismemberment and destruction. But now, the beginning of the end is at hand. One season... 18 episodes left in our nifty little ride. So let's make it count!

So, Juliet smashes the bomb, everything goes white, and we are left to wonder. What does this mean? What will happen next? I'll tell you exactly what happens next: Whatever the creators want to happen, that's what. At this point, absolutely anything and everything is fair game. I, for one, am starting to believe that the story will be reset. The show will start all over from the beginning and we will follow the lives of the Losties from the time the plane lands in LA. After all, the title of the first episode of the season is "LA X," as in Los Angeles International Airport. This would lead me to believe that the plane doesn't crash and makes it to LA safely.

But, there has to be a resolution on the island as well, which was in the future. The last time we left Fake Locke and Ben, they were getting their stab on with the mysterious Jacob. As he died, Jacob uttered "They're coming..." Who? Is it Iliana's group, the one's who carried Locke's body in the box? Or, could he be referring to the fact that the Losties in the past detonated the bomb and sealed their ability to come back to the island somehow. Who the heck knows.

I do know this though, we will be seeing lots of Losties from the past this season. Boone, Libby, Michael, Charlie, Claire, etc will definitely be making appearances, if not on the show full-time. But there are others that I haven't heard anything about, like Mr Ecko (yes please!) and Ana Lucia.

So, we really have no idea what twists and turns the show will take this season, but I can assure you that I will be surprised because I have totally sworn off any kind of spoilers and hints. I want to go into this season as pure as the newly-driven snow. This means I have been extremely careful when perusing my favorite websites, blogs, and magazines. In the past I have been spoiled a few times, and it's not too much fun. It's so much more exciting to watch the show when you have no idea what's about to happen.

So since we have no idea, let's revisit my top 3 scenarios, courtesy of last year's final Lost Lines:

Scenario #1
Juliet detonates the bomb and the pocket of electromagnetic energy in released, probably blowing up a large chunk of the island and most of the remaining inhabitants. Some of the Dharma Initiative and the Hostiles are left to pick up the pieces on the island. 30 years later, Oceanic 815 never crashes on the island because the electromagnetic energy is gone. The flight lands safely in Los Angeles. From there, we follow the lives of the Losties in the real world until mysterious events begin to draw them back to the island and a mysterious man named Jacob. I think this scenario is highly likely. This would leave a way for all the dead cast members to return to the show. But only the Losties that were touched by Jacob would actually end up on the island.

Scenario #2
Juliet detonates the bomb and everything goes white. Season 6 begins in a setting or situation that nobody would recognize. I can only imagine what it would or could be. Maybe it opens with Kate preforming surgery on a dying man. Or Jack being lead onto a plane in handcuffs by a U.S. Marshall. Or even Sawyer living the life of a washed up rock star, addicted to drugs. What I'm saying is, black is white, up is down, good is evil. A total reinvention of the show. The characters are the same, but their lives are completely different. The detonated bomb has caused a dimensional rift and all the characters are leading lives that just don't seem their own. Then things really get crazy. They all feel compelled to board a mysterious flight, Oceanic 815. And boom, the rest is a mystery. I think this theory would be highly unlikely. But if the producers are really wanting to shake things up and cause a buzz, this would be a great way to do it.

Scenario #3
Juliet detonates the bomb. The pocket of energy is temporarily released but begins to build up over time. Eventually, the Swan Station is rebuilt by the Dharma Initiative. The button begins to be pushed. Ben grows up on the island and the events unfold just as they would have anyway. Remember, Dr Chang made videos after the Incident occured, just like the one Desmond watched when he first crashed on the island. Ben grows up, meets up with Richard, gasses the remaining Dharmas, blah, blah, blah. But this time, when Juliet detonated the bomb, the Losties were all sent back to their regular timeline, but with their memories intact! They remember everything that has happened or will happen. So this time, when they board Oceanic 815, they have a plan. This theory also makes a lot of sense to me. It would allow all the old cast to return, and I could envision a hilarious conversation in which Hurley tries to explain the entire situation to a drugged-up Charlie.

Looking back at those scenarios, I kinda lean towards a mixture of the 3.

But who cares what's GOING to happen, here are 5 things I WANT to happen!

1. I WANT the Kate-Jack-Sawyer love triangle to end! Kate, just pick Jack already! It's obvious you make each other miserable. It's love!

2. I WANT an in-depth Richard backstory. Where he's from, how he got to the island, why he never ages, where he gets an eyeliner pencil on the island, you know, all the big questions.

3. I WANT Charlie to come back. Yes, you read that right. Bring back Charlie! I never knew how much I liked Charlie until he was gone. He was clearly one of the best charac....People, please, don't you know me better than that? Charlie? Really? I do want them to bring Charlie back...only to kill him in a deliciously horrific way! Yeah, drowning is bad, but being burned to death has got to be worse. Prepare the flaming arrows!!!

4. I WANT Faraday to return somehow and become even more crazy than usual. I'm talking Mad Scientist Crazy. Desmond and Faraday team-ups were quickly becoming my favorite part of the show. It was like Marty McFly and Doc Brown without the car. Great Scott!

And finally,

5. I WANT Ben to die the most fabulously awful death known to man! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Ben. It could be argued that he has become the most interesting character on Lost. But that SOB deserves to die! After all the epically nasty stuff he's done, they better send him out in style! Falling into an active volcano...Not good enough! Torn apart by hungry wolverines...won't do! If there was a way he could be rocketed into the sun, now we're talking!

Just a few quick reminders. Lost will be on Tuesdays this season, so plan accordingly. Tuesday at 7, it begins!

Losties,

Why bore you with some undoubtedly witty words? Let's hit it like a prizefighter!

LET'S TALK TIME:

1977

The Losties are at the construction site, Juliet is pulled down the hole, she pounds the bomb (hee hee). The bomb explodes. AT THIS POINT, IMO, EVERYTHING CHANGES. I believe at this point, 2 different realities are created. These 2 realities head off in different directions. Think of the letter 'Y.' The 2 new paths the fork in the 'Y' has created will never intersect. They will continue to go off on their own, on 2 different paths until something or someone brings them back together. These are the realities. One branch takes us to:

2004:

In 2004, the Losties board the plane from Sydney to LA. No crash, the plane makes it just dandy. But, since the plane didn't crash, a whole new world of possibilities has opened up. These are all new events. Marvel Comics has an entire series devoted to these kinds of scenarios. The title is called “What If...” and consists of stories told just slightly askew from the events we know. For example, “What If Peter Parker Was Bitten By An Irradiated Lion?” Boom, no more Spider-Man. Or maybe someone else was bitten by the spider, or What If Wolverine was a woman? Or What If Oceanic 815 had never crashed? In this reality, The bomb blew up the island, so the plane never crashed. Heck, the island is at the bottom of the ocean! But, there is something the Losties didn't consider. They just figured, we detonate the bomb, everything goes back to normal, we land in LA....we're golden! But, what about all the people that lived on the island? Or WILL live on the island? They blew it up in 1977, that's almost 30 years. So if the island is gone:

--Desmond could never have shipwrecked on the island. This could be a reason that he ended up on Flight 815. What if he never went on his world-spanning boat race? What if he never left Penny to go into the Army? What if he and Penny were married? Well guess what peeps? Time to bust out your DVR's, cause when Desmond and Jack introduce themselves for the “first time” on the plane, Desmond is wearing a wedding ring!!! That's right, go back and check it out for yourselves. So could that mean in this reality, Desmond and Penny are together? Or, (please, please, please) could Desmond be from a future where he and Penny are married and he has come back somehow to make sure his friends never make it to the island, with the help of his father-in-law Charles Widmore! I'm just sayin'...

--Juliet is never recruited by the Dharma Initiative and never goes to the island. This one is a biggie. When she was dying, she started muttering something about meeting up for coffee, and “We can go dutch.” Now remember, she was just exposed to a super high dose of radiation and electromagnetic energy. Gee, who else do we know with the same experience? Uh, hello McFly. What happened when the hatch exploded? Desmond wound up running nekkid through the jungle with the new-found ability to FLASH THRU TIME!! I think Juliet did the exact same thing. I think she is talking to Sawyer at some other point in time, possibly even in the other reality. That's why she said it worked. Because she either remembered or flashed right then to that time or place. I'M JUST SAYIN'...

--Anyone on the island would have to be dead. Ben, Richard, all the Others, all the Dharma Initiative, Dr. Pierre Chang (Miles' dad), everyone. Right? In a word....no. We might know that the island is destroyed, but we don't know how. It could have survived the bomb blast, only to be destroyed later by something else, like a certain smokey monster. I'M. JUST. SAYIN'!!!!

The other branch of our Y leads us to “the present,” at least for the Losties, which is 2007. Fake Locke is killin' fools right and left, and we learn that he is the smoke monster, and I presume this makes him the main villain on the show at this point. Ben becomes Darth Vader to the Man in Black's Emperor (really, it all just comes back to Star Wars, doesn't it. Jabba =Hurley, Charlie=the creepy little dude that sets on Jabba's lap with the evil cackling laugh, you know I'm right.) The rest of the Losties are taken to the temple where Sayid is apparently dead. But.....

I think that Jacob and Fake Locke (the smoke monster, the man in black, whatever you wanna call him) both need dead bodies to be reincarnated into the living world. That's why Jacob told Hurley that it is extremely important to get Sayid to the temple, because Jacob is preparing to inhabit his body. Yes, at the end Sayid wakes up. But I think it will be Jacob that is in Sayid's body. Just like Focke is using Locke's body. This makes me tingle with nerdish excitement thinking about a potential Focke/Sayid throw down in the future. It would be the 2 heavyweights of Lost badassery preparing for a beatdown of epic proportions, with the future of the island at stake. That wouldn't suck.

QUICK HITTERS!!!

--Did you notice the shark swimming around the remains of the underwater island at the beginning? It had a Dharma logo on the tail.

--So now Hurley's lucky?

--So the body of Jack's dad wasn't on the plane? Hmmmm. Interesting.

--I hate you Jack. You had the golden opportunity to let Charlie choke out and you screwed it up. Thanks for nothing asshat.

--Claire's back. We have to remember where all the Losties were going IF the plane hadn't crashed the first time. Claire was on her way to give her baby up for adoption. I wonder who the new parents will be? I have a guess as to one thing they won't be: ALIVE.
